What do you think about citation generators?

Answer

Citation generators (aka reference management software or RMS) can facilitate research projects, such as annotated bibliographies, literature reviews, and theses. They do so by enabling you to collect, store, and organize bibliographic information and then automatically generate bibliographies and in-line citations in a style of your choice (Chicago, APA, etc.).

That said, while RMSs can speed the process of citing sources, they are not perfect and can make errors, so be sure to check your computer-generated citation and bibliography against a citation style guide, which are available electronically and in hard copy in the library.

RefWorks, a prominent commercial citation generator, is free for the Union community. For help and to get started, visit our guide.

Other RMS include EndNote (commercial) and Zotero (free).
